If you've read Betty Smith you know that she's one of the best female authors of her time, hands down. This book set in 1927 in Brooklyn and then the mid-west gives great insight into life at the time and the hardships of young love and little money.

Betty Smith's works are all timeless. Although she is best known as the author of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, all four of her books are delightful and well-worth reading.
