Ireland’s first bout with breast cancer in 1997 motivated her to carefully weigh the advice of doctors following her lumpectomy. They urged her to have a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Instead, she decided to trust the messages she was getting from her body and find a way to eliminate straggler cells by boosting her immune system instead of submitting to invasive and toxic treatments that could kill her even if the cancer didn’t.
The experience resulted in her award-winning 2004 self-help memoir, Learning to Trust Myself: Lessons From Cancer and Other Life Dilemmas (ISBN 0-9761452-0-0).
Ireland (Ireland Communications) also teaches corporate, small group, and one-on-one workshops. Her corporate clients include the Port of Los Angeles, where she taught a business and report writing workshop for employees. Ireland has also been a popular public speaking teacher and coach.
Ireland's self-help workshops and coaching include programs on how to say no without feeling guilty, how to live the life you long to live, and how to move from where you are to where you want to be.
Ireland has recently relocated to the San Francisco East Bay area of San Leandro, CA.
