I was reading them before the show ever appeared.

I enjoyed the first books but got a bt disappointed with the later ones.  Just me I suppose.

As another thread brings out. the Temperance Brennen in the book and the Temperance Brennen in the TV series are two very different people.

If you view the 2 as seperate series where the main person happens to have the same name and occupation you can enjoy both.

I agree with Sue. The books are generally interesting and well-written, but they are totally different from the show. For instance, in the books Brennan is divorced with young adult children and her work is divided between Montreal and North Carolina, not Washington. The folks in the lab at the Jeffersonian are not a part of the books either.

I take them as two completely seperate entities because the only thing they have in common is the character of Tempe Brennan and even she is very different then from the books.

I agree with  all the explanations. I also think you can enjoy both--just remember they are very different.

I enjoy the TV show as well and have been avoiding the books because I thought I might be disappointed by the differences, but as has been suggested, if I think of them as completely separate series, I probably will enjoy the books as much as the series.

I should try watching the series--I did read one of the books and didn't really like it. If the series is quite different maybe I will like it. LOL
