Kelly is a beautiful young woman almost 18 years old who longs to be able to draw and have real paints and paper and own an art gallery. But her father Amos who has Kelly pull the mules along the Lehigh Canal From March through November every year. Kelly meets shopkeeper Mike cooper who is tender and kind to her. If they stop by Mike's store she gives her paintings to him to sell and she learns that Mike is a christian and not mean like her dad. Kelly and Mike love each other but until Mike falls in the Canal and Kelly jumps in and rescues them Kelly does not realize the depth of her love for mike. Mike proposes and they get married. Now Mike build on an Art gallery for Kelly to sell her paintings and Kelly becomes pregnant with their first child.Kelly knows now what a godly relationship is like. This is a wonderful , well told story and so sweet.10++++ This is book 1 in this series and I have also posted Sarah's Choice (Brides of Lehigh Canal, Bk 3). I have posted all three books in this series Kelly's Chance, Betsy's Return and Sarah's Choice. I have found this historical fiction series fascinating because it tells of how hard and labor intensive the lives of the canal workers were and is very descriptive of the early days of the Lehigh Canal.
