Killarney Clary was born and raised in Pasadena, California in 1953. She began crafting her unique style of poetry at age 12 and has since been published in numerous publications including: The Boston Review, The Yale Review, American Poetry Review, The Paris Review to name a few. Killarney Clary has published several books of poetry, Who Whispered Near Me, which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, The Potential Stranger and By Common Salt.

Clary attended the University of California at Irvine, where she received degrees in studio art and poetry writing. She has taught at the University of California at Irvine and at the University of Iowa Writer’s Workshop.
Her subjects are prosaic, but her prose captures the internal rhythms of both memory and casual speech, and has been wrenched into a fierce lyricism.
