I really enjoy reading a sweet, smooth flowing romance but recently I read one where the first 1/2 of the book was about a woman (newly pregnant) leaves her wealthy, abusive, drug using husband before he finds out she pregnant.  She moves to her maternal granddaddy's and moves in with him and meets a local and his daughter and falls in love.  She tells me why she left her husband and he and his daughter help her throughout her pregnancy and fall in love with the new baby.  Sounds great right?  Well the husband finds out about the baby and comes begging for a second chance and guess what, he the baby daddy (sarcasm), so she goes back with him and breaks everyones heart including hers and then he dies from a drug overdose months later.  She moves back to her granddaddy's town (he dies too) and after a custody issue comes up with the in-laws the man and his daughter eventually forgive her.   Ughhh.

I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine but I hate so must angst (sp?) and heartbreak after the falling in love.

Sorry to rant it was a book I wante to throw against the wall.

I read a book similar to this situation a couple weeks ago and I was getting so annoyed. I actually found myself taking it out my frustration with the book by being mad at my husband, and he didn't even do anything wrong...poor guy.

Real life has enough angst, i would rather not read about it in my book either. I feel your frustration.

I enjoy angst, but I want there to be a really GOOD reason for it. And for it not to last too long. :-)

Doesn't sound like much of a theme for  a "romance."  Maybe that's why I only read historical?

The perfect ending would have been the good guy telling her to take a hike.  I hate idiot women in the books I read.   Even worse than idiot men -- maybe cause it seems somewhat insulting.
