If you have a Kindle 3 (lastest generation) and the Amazon NON-lighted case that sells for $34.99 you may have problems with your Kindle. If you have this case and are experiencing problems like rebooting, freezing, battery drainage or not keeping your last read page, remove the Kindle from the leather case.

There are discussions on the Amazon Kindle forum about this case and I own one. I was having probems with daily freezing and battery draining. Took it from the case and have had NO problems in over 3 weeks. Many others have reported the same thing.

I hear that Kindle Customer Service is getting the word on this and refunding people for the cover. I have not called yet to try to get a refund. Some CS reps may not know about the problem.

The reason this is happening? The "hinges" that go into the Kindle are metal painted black. They are causing an electrical short inside the Kindle.

Again, this is the NON-lighted case. The lighted case does not seem to be a problem.

not keeping your last read page,

I did have this problem a few times. I switched to a flip case but not because of this. I wouldn't mind getting a refund but I bought the case at Staples. Would I take it back there?

I think you could try to take it back there. Not sure on their policies.

Amazon posted the following on Friday

"There have been some forum discussions regarding the non-lighted Kindle cover, and our engineering team is looking into this. Regardless, if anyone is having any problem with an Amazon-manufactured Kindle cover, please contact us at kindle-response@amazon.com, and we will be pleased to replace it for free or accept a return for a full refund, no matter when the cover was purchased. "

I sent them an email about my cover. A few hours later they called and explaining they would email me a shipping label and refund the full amount I had paid for the cover.
