Hi all, got a Kindle for Christmas (YAY!) and already have a question---

Once in awhile I have something that pops up under the text like 32 highlighted and the text is underlined with dashes---I have the new generation of Kindle.  Does anyone know how to take this off? Thanks!!

Hi, Keri! Welcome!

I have a K2, but I think this should work on the K3 also. Go to Menu, Settings, Popular Highlights and you should be able to turn that off.

They're highlights other people have made to share with others. I found that feature incredibly annoying, but at least it can be shut off.

If that doesn't work, we'll have to shout out to the K3 owners.

I didn't see a settings option.  There was an area for popular highlights but no where to turn it off. =(

Kei, here's what the instructions for the K3 say:

Viewing Popular Highlights

Amazon displays Popular Highlights by combining the highlights of all Kindle customers and identifying the passages with the most highlights. The resulting Popular Highlights help readers focus on passages that are meaningful to the greatest number of people. Some books don't have enough highlighting in them to have Popular Highlights. Popular highlights are marked with a gray dashed underline in your reading. You can see Popular Highlights for all books that have them at kindle.amazon.com.

To view Popular Highlights:

  1. Open a book on your Kindle.
  2. Press the Menu button and select "View Popular Highlights" from the options.

To turn Popular Highlights on and off:

  1. Navigate to Kindle's Home screen and press the Menu button.
  2. Select "Settings."
  3. Select the desired option next to "Popular Highlights."

I see the off button for the highlights but my cursor won't let me go up to the very top. It is up by the battery icon.....*grumbles* thanks for the help Marilyn. :-)
