I was reading on my kindle this morning and the screen went black...nothing...nada...tried everything I could think of to reboot.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Help!!!   Thanks.

I strongly urge you to call Amazon. They actually have quite good help with the Kindles. They walked me through how to do a full reboot. They sent out a replacement right away, with directions on how to return my sick one.

I would search the web high and low before I called B&N for a Nook. But Amazon's phone service is quite good. (I'd walk in for Nook help, but would never call.)

One thing to try, is to plug it in to a wall charger and leave it over night.

Did you figure out what the problem was?

No I never did.  One other time it froze up and I just plugged in back in and left it overnight and it fixed the problem.  This is the first time the screen went black. It is starting to make me nervous.  I have had it just over a year.  I swear they pre-program these things to die so you have to buy another....grr....

Any time it freezes with something on it, try plugging it in for a while. They need energy to redraw the page, so if the power is too low you get stuck with the last page you were on.

If it's completely blank, then it -may- have shut itself down. The Sony's do after three days they shut completely off and if the battery is too low it won't restart.

So leaving them to charge a while never hurts.

I don't think they purposefully make them cheap, but it keeps the costs down and they just worry about them lasting through the warrantee phase. I know that everything is like that now. We didn't even get 18 months from our last dishwasher, and 18 months later our 'new' microwave is making sounds again. Never fails.

At least Amazon has a rep for really good customer service!
