I goofed, and deleted them from my 'request list' before I thought about it and got the titles/author's names, but you all might want to check your loanable Kindle books. This weekend I had about seven that I requested that were loanable go to 'not available'.

Not because there were none to loan, (I knew that, was on the WL) but because the listing at Amazon now does not say 'lendable' anymore for that book.

Most were from the author Sherrilyn Kenyon, and one that is no longer lendable is "Invincible" and the other I think is "Fantasy Lover". They were lendable, now not.

So apparently 'loanable' is not a permanent condition, and a book that's loanable when you list it or ask for it can change.

So you might want to recheck your lendable lists to make sure they're all still lendable.

Added: IIRC, the other author I notice mostly disapear is Joanne Fluke.

I'd heard that on ebookfling's newsletter.  Apparently some titles are waivering back and forth between lendable and not.

Same thing happens with the Nook books - I think it is up to the publisher whether or not a book is lendable, and they change their minds.

hmm.  i would have sworn when i first read about the Kindle lending program, they said that if a book was lendable when you bought it it would be lendable forever (of course, just for the one time) even if the publisher changed the status later.  i remember hearing complaints about the Nook books switching back and forth, so i figured amazon's stance was in response to those.

so i'd definitely be interested to know if a book that someone bought when it was lendable and hasn't loaned now can't be loaned!

At least one book I have on my Kindle was lendable when I got it, and now the lendable button has disappeared.  It was a freebie though, so maybe that has something to do with it?

Yes. You can loan certain books, each one time, for 14 days. After that you can't loan it anymore. And it seems that some books may be loanable for a while, then the feature turned off after a while.

But it doesn't cost anything to loan out a book that's available. And there are web sites you can go to to list your loanable books and then ask for a loan from others.

Being lendable isn't up to Amazon, it's a decision made by the author/publisher.

so i'd definitely be interested to know if a book that someone bought when it was lendable and hasn't loaned now can't be loaned!

I'm suspecting I did, but since I was listing the books on different sites, assumed that I'd listed it wrong when I found it wasn't lendable. I can't remember which ones those were now.

This is interesting.  I remember that when they started this (Amazon) it was stated that it was based on percentage and a certain percentage it was lendable and the mid range it was a yes or no from the publisher and the third, it was not lendable.  The information led me to believe that once the publisher said it was lendable - it was lendable and wouldn not change.

I just had another disapear off my wish list. "A Betrayal in Winter", by Daniel Abraham.

Check it yesterday at Amazon to be sure, and it was clearly lendable. Put it on my list to borrow.

This morning, no longer lendable.

I hate when they play games.  I haven't had any disappear or I would be calling Kindle to find out what it is all about.

Me too.  Luckily it's only happened to me once so far, crossing my fingers it doesn't happen again.
