This was "almost" the old Anita Blake - hard nosed and protective of her people. The sexual athletics were there, but were not so "front and centered"

There was an actual plot, and the story of Anita and her friends and family were actually advanced, at least a little. It looked like that Anita is happy with her family, and is willing to accept that without "poking" at it so very much. Could it be that Anita is actually maturing?"

Some of Hamilton's books are an entire chocolate bar. Others are just pieces. For me this one had too many parts I'd skip over (the violence) and too little character development. Check it out from the library or wait for paperback, not worth the price and storage of hard cover.

This may be the book that finally convinced me to officially give up on the Anita Blake books.

It's repetetive in an almost obnoxious sort of way and the "final fight" was wrapped up neatly in less than one page of the 359 page novel.
