This is an amazing and memorable book.  Tops.... right up there with Life of Pi, Secret Life of the Bees, the Poisonwood Bible, and Tolstoy's Epic Novels. and Cormac's Blood Meridian.

A family in crisis, from Afghanistan, to the immigrant experience. All families survive a crisis or many - that is the essence of family.

I will long remember this novel, maybe forever

Saw a comment that it was 'foreign' well, excuse me, weren't we all foreign if you go back a generation or several!!!

Three cheers for PBS.

I love The Kite Runner!  It has become one of my favorite books.  I liked the movie too.  I thought the actors that were picked fit great for the way I saw them in the book.  Been thinking about reading it again actually .  If you saw the movie first and haven't read the book, do it !

Thanks for sharing Angie !

I really enjoyed the book too!  I had put off reading it for so long thinking that it might be written over-my-head and that I would not understand it.  Boy, was I wrong and I really wish I had read it sooner.  I have also read the second book Thousand Splendid Suns which was equally as moving.  I have passed this book on to many friends and relatives who have all enjoyed it.

Loved Splendid Suns!  Read it in a day and a half.  I have The Kite Runner on my TBR.  Hopefully, I'll get to it soon.
