Ferguson, the daughter of Herman and Prestyne Vetter, was born and spent her childhood in San Antonio, Texas, where she developed an interest in astronomy and physics. She studied music at the Juilliard School and had a twenty-year career as a professional musician. While spending a year in England while her husband, Dr. Yale H. Ferguson, was a Visiting Fellow at Cambridge University, Ferguson rekindled her early passion for science. After her return to the United States she began writing her highly successful books on science and currently lives in Bluffton, SC, and Cambridge, England.
