We have heard of micro-loans for a long time, but I really didn't know how to get involved. I read an article about Kiva and we made our first loans tonight! People donate amounts from $25 and they are loaned to folks throughout the developing world to begin or improve their businesses. You get to see the folks involved and follow the repayment process. When your loan is repaid, you can remove the funds or re-invest them. This is not an investment site. The loaners do not receive interest, just the orginal amount back. The repayment rate is 99.73%.
We had so much fun looking over all the options to share with others and as a family decided to not eat out in February to fund our loans. I think that it is an excellect opportunity for homeschool families to further explore the world.
