This is a Usborne Time Taveller Book. "Time Traveller books form a chldren's introduction to everyday life long ago. The books deal mainly with the more exciting happenings of daiy life--things like journeys, feasts and holidays. But these are specialy chosen to show, as well, how life is shaped an dchanged by major historical events.

The "Time Traveller Book of Knights and Castels" deals with a particularly exciting period in medieval history: Northwest Europe at 1240. This is the time when the experience of the crusades was breaking up the old social order; when towns were growing and nations develooping. The crusaders had brought back revolutionary new ideas about warfare, castle-building, and chivalry; and the knightly class was still a power--though this would change, soon. It is a time which gave rise to some of our best ideas and most stirring stories.

The characters introduced in the book are fictional, but all the material has been carefully researched and documented"
