GOOD romances, both historical and contemporary, where the heroine is not "drop dead gorgeous".  Somebody help me out!  Is there a website that lists them??

Miles Vorkosigan Series (1986-) by Lois McMaster Bujold - Miles Vorkosigan is a "four-foot-nine-inch, black-haired grey-eyed hunchback."

I don't think I could be interested in a hero with that kind of visual.

I'm new to this site so I don't know how to link stuff on here, but I do have a couple rec's for books with less than perfect heroines.

"Bet Me" by Jennifer Crusie.  Good romance and good hero and heroine. Min is described as plain looking and kinda heavy.

Also, Lori Foster's "Too Much Temptation" is also a good pick.

Debbie Macomber's Morning Comes Softly I think the woman is plain or at least not a 'hottie'..I think you've read this one already but someone else may be interested in it...

The Corset Diaries and The Perfect Wife(Sands) have overweight heroines..Corset Diaries is pretty funny...Perfect Wife I got after someone mentioned in here a year or two ago...

Houston we have a problem by Erin McCarthy also has a heroine who is sexy to the Hero but not written as ravishing like other romance books.

The Kissing Gate and The Mad Marquis by Fiona Carr also have this type of heroine who is valued for her intellegence but older than most women.  The Rake by Mary Jo Putney is another one that comes to mind.

I have to order the book, gals, about Miles Vorkosigan.  Any book or character that brings out such contrasting expression here is usually very worth the read!

there's another Debbie Macomber book too..think it's one of the Dakota ones that has more than one relationship going on..a rich rancher has a plain daughter who wants this one guy for a husband so her father pretty much 'buys' him for her by offering the ranch, etc I think.

I haven't read the Miles books yet - been sitting on them waiting for just the right time. Have heard nothing but great comments on them. Another hottie in the hunchback category was Joffrey de Peyrac from the ANGELIQUE books. I had an incredible crush on him back in the 1970s.

Thanks!  I've read some of these but the links you sent are a good resource.  I was most referring to a plain jane heroine.  And eww, so cannot get into a hunchback! lol

Ashley, You may wish to start with Shards Of Honor, a great book and the H/H become Miles' parents.  The sequil tells readers why Miles is...short.  For the actual Miles series, check on the author's website.  Not only are there several in the series (lol) but some were later combined and given different names...yikes, it's confusing.  Not heavy on romance, but great reading!
