So I was just talking about some ladies about some of my favorite plots and that made me remember a book I really liked but can't remember the title!

Here's what I remember:

The hero gets engaged to a woman at the beginning of the book. It seems that his father was as a dishonorable sort and ruined his family name so the hero needed to make an good marriage to save his family's honor. The hero is rich and stuff so he meets the father, finishes the engagement and then decides to go on a trip to his estates or something. In the way, he meets the heroine - I think in a inn - and they hookup. I think she may have been in a bad marriage and was living with relatives that didn't treat her too well. Then she goes with him while he's traveling and she's his mistress for a while.

Any help would be appreciated! I remember loving the book and would like to read it again.

It sounds a lot like a Mary Balogh plot. She did a lot of engaged heroes. Could it be Simply Unforgettable? That has an inn meeting.  Also one of her Christmas books did too.

No, I don't think it is SImply Unforgettable, doesn't look like he was engaged. The other one I as thinking of was Snow Angel, but that doesn't sound right either.

No, it's not a Mary Balogh. The sex was hot, LOL!

I get the impression that it was an author I liked...let me start checking my favorite authors (I don't think it's LK either.)

My first guess would be Cheryl Holt. She does hot sex and abused heroines. I'll check my Holt collection for more of the details.

Possibly Complete Abandon by Cheryl Holt - She agrees to be his mistress if he'll fix the roofs and not raise the rents on the villagers she's come to care about...

NO BARGAIN IS AS ENTICING AS...
When Emma Fitzgerald storms the manor home of the new Viscount Wakefield, she feels more than justified fury. Having just inadvertently witnessed His Lordship in scandalous dishabille with his London mistress, her blood pounds with outrage ... and with the delicious secrets of his flesh. She has come to demand better treatment for his tenants, to seek some compassion, a shred of decency from this dastardly rake whose reputation for sin and debauchery precedes him. Now, the erotic image of his powerful flesh only heightens her determination to make this wicked rogue accountable for his actions...

ONE SEALED WITH A KISS...
Certainly no woman has ever dared to take John Clayton to task as though he is a naughty schoolboy, and no woman, especially one as enticing as Emma, ever has refused to be baited by his bold, assessing gaze. Instead she seems to look beneath his skin to see more than a scandalous rake. But this prim and proper vicar's daughter leaves him speechless when she proposes a bargain worthy of his own insolence. In return for his kindness to others, she offers herself. Vowing to regain the upper hand, John brazenly sets out to introduce Emma to the art of love--heedless of the consequences to his own heart...

I believe it's The Lady is Tempted by Cathy Maxwell.  It's been a couple of years since I read it, but everything that you mentioned sounds right.

I have The Lady is Tempted in my TBR and it certainly looks like the same plot. Let me know if you remember anything I could check for you.

Yes, I think that's it!!! Thanks so much Angie! Now that I think of it, I think I remember the business of the vicar and his 6 children - I think the relatives are sort of pushing her to marry him and that's why she goes on a trip to live with his sister in London instead of marrying the vicar.

The Lady Is Tempted by Cathy Maxwell

Sometimes the opportunity to misbehave is very tempting indeed, even for the most well-bred young lady.

Marry the local vicar -- a stodgy man with six impossible children -- never! Deborah Percival is determined to discover passion in a man's arms, not duty in a dull marriage. And when she becomes stranded at a countryside inn, tantalizing Anthony Aldercy, the Earl of Burnell, offers her the chance to fulfill her dreams. Deborah knows she should say no -- but how can she resist?

The Lady is tempted...

The earl is determined to repair his roguish reputation -- and a marriage to a demure highborn lady of the ton will do this -- but he cannot deny deborah's charms. Her lush curves tease his senses, while her delicous honesty touches his heart. But when she disappears, he's desperate, so he searches all of london to find her, refusing to rest until he brings her into his life -- and his arms -- again.

Perhaps Deborah is not the only one being tempted...

Glad that was it.  That was my favorite Cathy Maxwell book.  I really enjoyed the story and the characters.  Her books can be hit or miss with me, but that one kept me entertained the whole time.

I don't know if I've read anything else by her but I really liked that book. From the description the heroine sounds a bit bratty but from what I remember, that's not at all the case. I'll get it soon so I can read it again!
