I am slavering over this. Anyone on this board have a Kobo Touch, Glo, or Mini? What I like about this one is the 1gh processor and the 4gb storage + SD card slot. Also love the on screen font size slider, font weight and sharpness adjuster, etc. Would love to hear if these things work well. The Aura appears to have the same software.

Kobo Aura HD

With the price at $169, it'll be a long wait til Christmas, if I decide to get one.

Now if they will sell a lighted Mini with a card slot....take my money!

Very nice.

Just not sure how well they'd work with my libraries ebook service.

Looks like a big Kindle touch.  :)

Nice!  What format does it take?  ePub?

Much as I like the looks of that Kobo, I would rather have a Sony or a Kindle. I'll be waiting for their next device announcements.

I know Kobo takes ePubs. Don't know which other formats work.

It handles both Mobi and PDFs.

A Kobo touch was one of the first readers I got a couple of years or so ago and quickly traded out. it was horribly slow and the operating system didn't always recognize commands. it had trouble recognizing and handling 600 books, and the leftover space was unusable. Checked out several forums and that seemed to be normal for the device. I've been avoiding them ever since. Pretty machine but lousy OS. I've not heard yet the OS is any better on the new machines.

I have the Mini. As an everyday reader, I wouldn't recommend it.  It's small and compact - great for doctors office or maybe even traveling (train, plane) but the size also has a drawback - page turns.  You are constantly turning the page if you have a larger font.

Good to know, Cyndi and Sherri. I had a 5" reader but it was more the screen type than the size that I disliked, as I recall. But anyway, one of these days I will get into Best Buy and play with a mini myself. I'm hoping either Sony or Amazon, or both, will come out with a 5" and a 7 or 8". I might need a new toy for Christmas!

Sony may have a new reader out this year. Here.

But it's really only rumor. Someone mentioned that the T2's price has dropped, but I just checked the web site and it's the same price it was last year.

I'm thinking it's wishful thinking on someone's part. Sony has been reported as saying that they're not doing a front-lit reader again, since the last one they did was a flop.

(That was the only Sony model I saw in person and gave it a pass. For me, the screen was awful. I could see why it didn't sell well.)

If Sony does release a reader with good lighting, I would buy it! They seem sort of ambivalent about their ereaders. Or maybe lackadaisical is a better word. They release a new product with none of the fanfare and slick web pages of their competitors. Like they make them, but they don't really care.

I don't think I'll buy another reader without a light (unless it's used and cheap).

As a blog pointed out, where is Kobo getting these screens....who else is ordering them in volume, thus bringing the price to what Kobo can afford? I'd bet Amazon, if not BN or Sony. Maybe all three. All three of them have better software on their readers than Kobo.

That seems kind of big, though, in practice. Any reader of that size would have to have more than just size to interest me. A minimum of 4GB, preferably 8. I am still pissed that Amazon released the paperwhite with only 2GB. That was just so wrong.

You are right, Barbara! Can't afford one right now, either. Anyway 6" is the perfect size.

I could upgrade if they release one with 8gb storage, though....

I have gadget lust again....but ZERO money. Plus Kobo is not really where I want to go. Kindle, Kindle, Sony! Those are my e-inks and they are great. Especially the Paperwhite.

The 8.9 is not $229. But I think you can get the refurb 8.9 for $239.

Well after seeing the latest video review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPFf...e_gdata_player I no longer want it. To me the blacks on the paperwhite are MUCH blacker. I don't see any advantages to the "HD" on the Kobo Aura. Even on the PDF photo that they showed, the blacks look blacker to me on the Kindle.

In retrospect, with the Kobo ability to darken text with the slide of a finger, that may be irrelevant.

Who am I kidding....I want one.

smiley

I've got totally unrealistic, head-in-the-clouds expectations about the new Sony prs-T3.

1) That there will even be one

2) It will have even more space in Memory than 2 gig.

3) That they'll still  be able to sort by collections and the OS won't be forked up over something I don't want changed

4) will be front-lit with no colored spots and even across the surface, which won't run the battery down in any noticeable way

5) and I can change the font to super-black if I want, along with loading any other fonts I want

So it's easy to wait when you have totally unrealistic expectations that haven't been dashed upon any rocks. Yet. wink

Not holding my breath for that one, Cyndi.

I wonder if the Kobo Aura will go on sale ever. I totally want to play with one.

Ok I am getting a used Kobo Mini so I can try it out. If I like it, I can think about the Glo or the Aura.
