Okay. so this is the new abbreviation according to a conference my minister just returned from.

so of course our church leadership is split... continue using LGBTQ or  shift to the new LGBTIQQ ? (to me the latter looks like someone slipped while typing and LGBTQ sums it up nicely)... what do you all think....

editied cause I finally remembered the word I've been thinking of for the past few hours :)

This was a constant debate among groups I was involved in on campus. It became known as the "Alphabet Soup" problem. LGBTIQQ is not a new abbreviation, it's been around for a few years. As has LGBTTIQQAA which is the acronym the group at my university was considering using. In the end, most people agreed that these longer abbreviations were just too long and confusing. It's great to be inclusive, but at some point you begin to spend more time explaining your acronym than working on your cause. The group I belonged to stuck with LGBTQ, though other local groups used the classic LGBT. For those who are interested LGBTTIQQAA stands for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered Transsexual Intersexed Questioning Queer Asexual Ally. Quite a mouthful!

Thanks, Lauren. We're starting a new campaign to be more "seen" in the liberal areas of the county, and I think our minister didn't want to offend anyone by keeping it as LGBTQ :)

LGBTTIQQAA  - Holy crap! And I had to ask about the main abbreviation :)

The only part that I could ever figure out was lesbian and gay.

Intersexed is someone who has genitalia, chomosomes and/or secondary sex characteristics of both sexes.
