Sarah Smith Sampson of Bath was a young wife who went with the 3rd Maine Regiment---her husband's regiment---to nurse its soldiers and others at Bull Run, Fair Oaks, Malvern Hill, Harrison's Landing, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and Cold Harbor. From the beginning of the Civil War to the end, Sarah was at her post with the sick and the wounded.
