This was a very good read if you're interested at all about high society in England pre-WWI, during the war, and beyond. Follows the real-life family of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and his wife, Almina. Very interesting, without being dull, story of their life together before, during, and after (briefly) WWI. A glimpse into the hardships of the English/Allies during this time period. Especially the soldiers fighting on the front lines - with the introduction of toxic gasses and tanks for the first time. Lady Almina, being from money and status, opened Highclere Castle as a hospital to the wounded. Fascinating glimpse into the past.
