This book is an excellent read for fans of Narnia looking for new worlds to explore! Coville's Luster is populated by dwarves, unicorns, dragons and other fantastic creatures. The book's adventure elements will be sure to hook the young readers in your family.
I have always enjoyed Science Fiction and Fantasy and thought this was a fun read. Good for 10+, I would think. I plan to read the rest of the series. I need to know what happens with Cara, her grandmother, all of the unicorns, and Beloved and Cara's father.
This series is one of my favorites. I first found it in a library book sale around the age of 12 and ever since then (until they were finished) I would check to see if the new book was out every single time I went to the book store. They are that good. I think it's a great read for ANY age, I love it just as much now as I did then. everything is well written and the plot is amazing. Each book just enhances the world and story further. The ending on each will leave you desperately wanting more and the final book has a lovely ending. It was agonizing waiting years for the next one to come out. Luckily this story is already written for you guys! But he may not be done with this world yet...hopefully!
If your kids liked the Narnia books, they will also love Coville's INTO THE LAND OF THE UNICORNS! I promise!
From back cover:
EIGHT! ... NINE!... TEN!...
As each chime sounds, Cara climbs faster up the steep bell tower. Eleven! She must be on the roof when the next bell tolls. As she races up the stairs, Cara can't believe everything that has happened. Wasn't it just a few minutes ago that she and Grandmother Morris were peacefully walking home from the library? When did that mysterious man start to follow them. What does he want? Where did he come from? Who is he? Twelve! The ringing bell brings Cara back to the moment. Gramma told her what she must do! With a deep breath, and only half believing she will survive, Cara jumps off the church roof and into the adventure of her lifetime--into Luster, land of the unicorns.
In Luster, Cara meets the Dimblethum, the Squijum, and the most magnificent of all the inhabitants, Lightfoot, a rebellious young unicorn. Together the new friends set out on a quest--to reach the Unicorn Queen and prevent the destruction of all unicorns.
I loved this book! This is my favorite book for fantasy. It has a captivating beginning and keeps you. I couldn't put it down. My daughter had read it first and recommended it to me. I can't think of a negative thing to say about this book except that your housework won't get done!
