Writes more like a journalist than a historian. "... James Monroe lived on the edge of a political maelstrom that would eventurally pull him into its vortes..." According to the author, Adams, Jefferson and Madison were mere caretakers of the presidency, Monroe set the presidency on firm footing. Appoarently, Monroe got along with everyone, including Andrew Jackson. I enjoyed skimming through it.
