Dallas McCabe's boss has sent her to interview Daniel Masters for her next TV special. Daniel is a bestselling author who has written several books. But he refuses to give an interview. When Dallas arrives in the small South Carolina town to talk with him, she learns that Daniel lives in a remote area in the mountains. Hiking fourteen miles in the rain to his cabin, Daniel refuses to give her a story. But when she tries to return to civilization, she finds that the rain has washed away the bridge across the creek. Now she is stranded on top of a mountain with Daniel and his back-to-nature lifestyle.

This is an older category romance that I picked up to complete a reading challenge. It was originally released in 1985. We only get the heroine's point-of-view. I thought Dallas was ridiculous. She hikes up a mountain with only a change of clothes, a carton of cigarettes, and a bottle of bourbon. No thoughts of what she may run into. I'm surprised she didn't take high heels along too. She is shocked that Daniel can grow his own food and repair his own cabin. He lives off the land, just as he described in the books he wrote. She never thought anyone could give up modern conveniences.

I had to do a lot of skimming to finish this book. My rating: 2 Stars.
