I thought this was a really interesting crime novel that I thoroughly enjoyed. I am on the lookout for more novels by her now because I thought this story was written very well and I had trouble putting it down!
Anything by Jilliane Hoffman is good. She not a well known author but this book, or any of her other two books will keep you on the edge of your seat. She's one author that I really keep an eye on for new releases.
Another terrific page turner from Hoffman. It helps to have read the prequel - Retribution. There's plenty of gore and twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. However, I didn't like that the ending set you up for a possible third installment. I hope not, C.J.'s been through enough.
Protags: CJ Townsend
Setting: Miami, Florida
First Sentence: "The heavy wooden doors to courtroom 4-8 swung open again, tapping the back of the chair where a corrections officer sat fiddling with the bottom snap on his department-issued green windbreaker."
Comments: 2nd book in series. A nice follow-up to her first book RETRIBUTION which was my favorite book of 2004.
Miami Assistant State Attorney C.J. Townsend is living a nightmare. She's haunted by her role in the Cupid Murders. She withheld evidence, critical to the defense, to put the man who raped her on death row. Now she's being terrorized as someone begins murdering the five others engaged in the conspiracy of silence surrounding that case.
Two years ago a brutal serial killer known as Cupid terrorized Miami, torturing and killing 11 young women. Sociopath William Bantling was arrested by police and Assistant State Attorney CJ Townsend put him on Florida's death row, where he waits to pay for the crimes with his life.
But now the terror stalks Miami Beach. Three cops are dead-savagely mutilated while out on patrol. The killer's apparently motiveless attacks horrify the public and leave law enforcement officials shaken.
And when it becomes clear that all three dead cops worked on the Cupid investigation,it seems the killer has an even more terrifying agenda. CJ Townsend is worse than shaken. She shares a secret with 3 colleagues that may go right to the heart of this and the Cupid case-a secret that her colleagues have just taken to the grave. CJ knows that her friends, from all scrutiny. But she also knows that to do so means she will be it's only living witness-and perhaps the next to die.
