About a month ago, I was mailed a wish list book, or it was marked as mailed. It hadn't shown up and I assumed it was lost in the mail, but the sender PMed me today to say the book was really only mailed today, and that it would get there, but it would have timed out. What should I do here? I know that you have to agree to a late mailing, and if it got there in the given time I wouldn't care, but hearing two days from it timing out that it was really just mailed this morning is irritating.

Unfortunately, while PBS has mailing time guidelines, there are no particular penalties for mailing late.

Since you don't have a 2nd copy of the book yet, if the book times out before it arrives, you need to mark the book received from your Transaction Archive when it arrives, and make sure to mark that it is Received With A Problem - Late Mailing. And note the dates in the appropriate fields.

PBS will keep track of late mailers and if it is an ongoing issue with a sender, they will do something. They track problems like that.

After the book times out, it will go back on your WL, and I also would put the book on hold on your WL when that happens, so you don't get offered a 2nd copy.

What Sara said.

Technically mailing that late the sender should have asked if you still want/need the book.  But so long as you haven't already received a second copy of the book you must mark it received from your transaction archive.  Do mark the book RWAP so TPTB have a trail of info to take action if this member is making a habit of this.

If the book has been returned to your wishlist, you will want to put it on hold so FIFO does not request another copy for you.

(If you have received a second copy, then there is a special exception.)

DO mark the book as RWAP. I'm pretty sure there's a drop down menu that will let you select "late mailed" or something like that.

I've actually run into this issue quite a bit lately, and I've made it a policy of mine that if the book doesn't show within two weeks (twice the amount of time it usually takes for a book to get to me), I PM the sender to confirm the book was mailed. Sometimes people will mark a book mailed with the intent of going to the post office, but then not make it there and the book is forgotten about. Sometimes people will ask a relative to mail the book, then assume their request was carried out, only to find later it never happened.

When I message people, I usually say something along the lines of "Hi. I have yet to receive [book title], and I just want to confirm that it was mailed. I know books sometimes are marked mailed but then get forgotten about and never make it to the post office, so I just wanted to check in and make sure. Thank you for looking!"

I've never had anyone be snippy about it. And people are usually very apologetic and send the book out the next day. It saves me a couple extra weeks of waiting. I don't mark these RWAP because it's understood it was a simple mistake and I was able to communicate with the sender about the situation. The very rare one or two I'd had where I never heard anything and it arrived a month or so later, those I RWAP.

Sometimes books that are mailed on time just arrive late for whatever reason. You are only supposed to RWAP for late mailing if there is a  clear postmark or postage date showing lateness.

You are correct, I miss wrote. There have been situations where the post mark date is a month later than marked on PBS. Those I mark RAWP unless I have been in contact with the sender.
