Laura Caldwell, graduated from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law in 1992 and began work as a civil litigator for Clausen Miller, PC, Bresler Harvick & Glenn Ltd., and becoming a partner at Worker and Power in 1998, specializing in medical malpractice and entertainment law.

In 2001, Caldwell joined the staff at Loyola University Chicago School of Law as an Adjunct Professor of Law and is currently a Distinguished Scholar In Residences and Director of the Life After Innocence program.

Caldwell's first nonfiction, Long Way Home - A Young Man Lost and the Two Women Who Saved Him, is about a young man, Jovan Mosley, who spent nearly six years in a holding cell in one of the country's toughest jails without a trial. Caldwell and Catherine O'Daniel, a criminal defense attorney was convinced of his innocence, and both took on the case pro bono bring about his exoneration and eventual freedom.

Due to the Mosley case, Caldwell founded Life After Innocence at Loyola which advocates for innocent people adversely affected by the criminal justice system, helping them reenter society and enabling them to reclaim their rights as citizens, through individualized legal and support services and wider-reaching public policy initiatives.
