This book offers an informative, fact-based look at the 20th century history of the Middle East. The story of the two main characters is interesting, but for me the real fascination of the book lies in its ability to make understandable a very confusing and political time in history that unfortunately continues today. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the Middle East.

Attempting to understand the Arab-Israel conflicts and history has boggled my mind...even as I have tried to read, understand and keep up with all the recent history.
This book brought the conflicts down to people and families with openness and honesty. This resulted in wondering if peace can ever be restored; yet, could be if hate is not taught to every generation. Probably an impossibility. Hope seems to be in concessions and as the author stated (paraphrased) that neither side will get what they are entitled to.

This is an excellent balanced book for insights into the Israeli/Palestinian situation, two or more peoples claiming one land. It has strength in its interviews and background research on two families, one Arabic, one Israeli who live in one particular home in Israel/Palestine before and after the creation of the State of Israel. It traces both families over 60 years or more. Very insightful. Well written by Sandy Tolan.
