Is lendle.me no longer doing the thing where every time you lend they put something towards a gift card to Amazon?  I finally managed to get a couple of lends recently and I just checked to see how close I was and there's no info there.

No, they're not.  I saw in last week's newsletter that they stopped doing it because they weren't getting enough from Patrons to cover it and they preferred to spend the money on other things, or something along those lines (I don't remember all the details and I already deleted that email)

I knew they weren't when the info disapeared, but missed it in the newsletter.

I figured it would go when the new people bought it.

Well darn now I"m sorry I paid the patron fee.  I never even earned one gift card because I never got to lend much.  I check my email several times a day and 95% of the time someone beat me to the lend.  This happened even when I saw the email within a few minutes.

Oh well.  I've been able to borrow quite a few.

I'm not happy with the barage of emails the new owners send.  I need to check the settings because I get like 10 emails a day from them.

I think there's an "Unsubscribe" at the bottom. I turned mine off, and think that's what I did.

In the note box asking why, I told them that I was getting way too many emails and didn't appreciate being bombarded with them.

Unfortunately, I think they've made a deal to advertise in the emails to make money, so went way overboard sending them out.

But that's why I didn't see a newsletter. Either I'd turned them off by then, or it was lost in the spam.

I did pay the Patron fee, but mostly got it back over two years. Ended up getting $20 all together, but barely scraped by at the end of December. Way too many times I log in an find a book was already lent.

Even when I was sick, at 2 am, they'd have been fullfilled!

I know!  Last night I managed to lend one that had been a freebie box set at one point.  I saw the meail 13 minutes after it was sent and was really surprised that no one had beat me to it already. There have been times when an email for a lend has come in while I was active in my email account reading and deleting emails and still someone beat me to it.

Oh well I guess I got my money's worth because I have borrowed more than I lent and most of what I've lent out has were freebies.

I'll do the unsubrscribe thing.

My personal opinion (and it's an opinion and I'm not accusing anyone) but I think someone had a "bot" going on the site that initiated the lend as soon as the request was made.  That's the only way I could explain why I would be, literally, on the site and in my email so many times and could never get a lend.  Sometimes I'd start the lend, then by the time I was finished I'd get the screen saying the lend couldn't be completed because the request was already filled.

I'm kind of glad they stopped paying out.  I like to lend to help others, not get something in return.  Now I get to lend more often. Other sites I've signed up for never get requests, so lendle.me is the only place I've been successful. I only ever got one gift card, so the frustration wasn't worth it.

I never managed to lend much on there or get to requests fast enough. I'm always a little disappointed in the selection as most of it is freebies that anybody can get. I have tons of credits to borrow but can hardly find anything I don't already have.

I have tons of stuff. Most are freebies, but they're the older ones that aren't free anymore. I'll lend to anyone here who wants a copy. I just need to figure out how to list them. The Lendlink list doesn't list them all to other members, so they're hard to find.

Okay, here's an experiment.

I've listed my Amazon Loanable books, A's and B's only, to my Bulletin board and made it public.

If you all see anything you want, PM me with your Amazon email and I'll sent it to you. First come, first served, and I haven't read 99% of these yet so no use asking me if they're any good or what they're about. You'll have to check Amazon for all that.

I've picked out the unleadable ones from that list, so they all should be good to go.

Amazon has the last word, of course. wink

I found to make line breaks on in the text file, I creat the list in Word then "search and replace" any paragraph or line breaks with <br> (lessthan BR greaterthan)

That is the only thing I know to break up the lines, or it just clumps all together when you paste in the list.

Well I find that without the cash back now I have no real incentive to buy anything that's lendable and post it there.  I have 100+ borrow credits mostly from listing my freebies.  Another 20 or so from being able to lend some out.  Since I have a lot to read already, no incentive to buy any ebooks to list there.  I would have bought ebooks with the gift certificates.

I added the ones that had print versions to my WL here.  Well the ones that cost more than arounmd $4 to buy in ebook.  There really arent many higher priced ebooks that are lendable.

I've only had a handful of lend requests since the new owners took over and only managed to get 2 lended out.  I've had 2 of my WL books come up in the last 4 months. So, again not much incentive to add more books.  I haven't even bothed to add any more freebies that I got in months.

Eta: if I come across one that I really, really want to read ASAP and it's lendable then I'll buy it and list it. But with 1000+ books in my TBR that hardly ever happens to me.  I always have something similar to hold me over.

Ok, glad I am not the only one who got beaten to a lend.  My good friend has loads of ebooks and sent up an account, and no matter what she did, was always beaten out. I dont think has looked at it in a week or so as it bummed her out.

As with the emails, I thought it was a glitch but now it seems it's not the case, will need unsubscribe too.

Well I find that without the cash back now I have no real incentive to buy anything that's lendable and post it there.

Since I don't have any relatives who read except my daughter, and she doesn't usually read the same thing I do, I've never felt that a book being lendable or not had anything to do with me buying it. I buy it for the price I figure is good for one read. Since I'm a re-reader, if I read it a second time, that's even better.

Otherwise, I don't tend to check on that until after I've purchased something.

I've got enough of the early freebies listed that I just list the ones now that do quality that I've paid for. Those tend to get lent faster than the others since they're not posted by the hundreds.

Ok, glad I am not the only one who got beaten to a lend.

I've got Firefox, so can creat a seperate tab for each web site. I have one for Lendable and it's set to the "My Books" page. I've found that if I have that page sorted on "Requests" that I sometimes see a loan listed there before it's listed on the main page, and before an email has been sent out. I've actually picked up a few lends this week by seeing them there, and I snap them up.

If I waited for emails, I'd never get any lent out.
