I always mail my books from one of the mail places at my grocery store. Normally , I say Media mail and pay $2.61 ,  this time they had a new worker and he said " Lets see if we can find a cheaper rate to mail...I'm like okay...lol.. So he did it Library mail and it cost $2.48...I got thinking after ,should I have done that or not.  What is the difference?

If I remember correctly, either the sender or receiver must be a library to legitimately use library mail. Use media mail, avoid potential problems.

Yes, you cannot use Library Mail.

Either the sender or the receiver must be a library.

The worst would be the recipient would be charged 13 cents postage due, refuse to pay it, and it would get returned to you.

I doubt if anyone is paying that much attention, though.

I had the same problem at Meijer. One employee kept trying to send my books Library rate instead of Media Mail and was quite condescending when I tried to explain that Library rate was for libraries only. Finally had to get the manager to explain to this woman that I was not an idiot and that Media Mail was the correct rate.

Sandy

That is where I went " Meijer"    I always shop there when I need to mail books, otherwise I shop at Walmart. because Walmart does not have a mailing station..

Library rate is meant to be used to or from non profits.  We want Media rate.

For the DMM code: The items described in this section may be mailed at the Library Mail rate when sent between: (1) schools, colleges, universities, public libraries, museums, and herbariums and nonprofit religious, educational, scientific, philanthropic (charitable), agricultural, labor, veterans, and fraternal organizations or associations; (2) any such institution, organization, or association and an individual who has no financial interest in the sale, promotion, or distribution of the materials; or (3) any such institution, organization, or association and a publisher, if such institution, organization, or association has placed an order to buy such materials for delivery to itself:

winkThanks for explaining it like that  ( Emily )  and everyone.   Well , 2 of of the 3 packages sent have been received. The second one just now. Just waiting on the last one. On the tracking it says its at the post office in the city where it needs to be.  Hopefully it will be received tomorrow. Now that I know  NOT to do that... ( it seemed to work out this time...lucky..)   I'll always mail media. And I can let them know at Meijer's that its not for PBS books.

I have a Little Free Library.   I can both send and receive mail using the library rate.

It is not intended for personal use.
