This book is a well written description of life during the middle ages for the middle class people. There is so much in life back then that most of us don't even think about. Great history!

Everything you ever wanted to know about castles is in this book. I found much of it fascinating - such as the bathroom facilities. It's a good book, and if you begin to get bored with it, turn a few pages and find something else to learn!

The Gies' are terrific storytellers. They give the facts and do so in detail while telling them in such a fashion as to rival any Hollywood movie. If only the textbook writers would strive to attain the skill and mastery over non-fiction that Mr. & Mrs. Gies have throughout all their books, schools would see a fantastic leap in the GPA of their students. My husband is a writer and we buy every book we find from the Gies' for his reference collection.
