Rick Warren is the pastor of the 16,000-member Saddleback Church and the author of the bestselling THE PURPOSE-DRIVEN LIFE and other related books. In this unauthorized biography, celebrity biographer George Mair explores Warren's life and career, telling how he came to be the leading example of the phenomenon of the megachurch movement in America. Warren leads a simple life and espouses an approach to faith that clearly has widespread appeal among Christians in America. Based on interviews and extensive research, Mair's book provides insight into the inspirational pastor, including his background, his vocation, and his family. (Mair is also the author of PARIS HILTON: THE NAKED TRUTH and ANGEL OF DEATH, on the serial killer Charles Cullen.)
Might as well start with a disclosure: I'm a pastor; our congregation has benefited hugely from Rick Warren's extended ministries. Of course I don't agree with him on everything; I don't agree with anybody on everything; sometimes I don't even agree with myself. That being said...
This is a straightforward easy read, telling not only the basic story of the growing ministries Warren has initiated, but giving worthwhile historical and cultural background that helps to explain the wide acceptance of his work. It also clearly outlines some of his basic premises and teaching tools.
I recommend it!
