Really enjoyed this book! Unlike many authors, James Patterson's books do not all seem to be cut from the same cookie-cutter format. He surprises once again with Lifeguard. Art theft, double-cross, murder, mystery, romance, twists and turns with characters I enjoyed and wanted to learn more about - I found myself "taking the long way" frequently while I was listening so I could hear more!

While the plot was decent and suspense was good, I thought the main characters were poorly developed, and the book included many lines that seemed more appropriate for a D-rated suspense movie. I found these lines cheesy and slightly annoying. The reader of the audiobook had a dramatic, husky voice, and perhaps I grew tired of that. I considered stopping the book many times but found that it was still an okay way to pass time while in the car.

This was the first James Patterson book I've listened to on CD and I'm hooked! The plot line involves fine art and a heist gone wrong, which made the story even more interesting to me since I'm an art lover. There's a love interest, a 'family of origin' problem, and lots of surprises as the story moves along. I never thought I would enjoy a mystery like this but if you're looking for a really engaging story that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last word, this book is for you!
