A constantly moving thriller, On the Line gets things moving right out of the gate from the very beginning and lets up very little until the final page. It won't take you long to finish this exciting thriller that has Private Detective Bill Smith running all over New York City in a desparate race to save his friend and sometimes partner, Lydia Chin, who has been kidnapped and will be killed in 12 hours if Bill can't find some way to stop it. This novel is the 10th in a series but you can jump in at any point and be just fine, as each adventure more or less stands on it's own with an occasional recurring character or two. In fact this was the first book in the series I read and am now reading the previous entries. S.J. Rozan alternates main characters with one book being a Lydia Chin adventure and the next focusing on Bill. The characters she creates are fun to follow, though I tend to enjoy the adventures of Bill Smith just a bit more. So far each book has been an enjoyable read, with this one being the fastest moving and most exciting as well as the most recent entry published (2010) at the time of this review.
