I thought this might be interesting and helpful to other readers.  I know it will be to me.  I thought maybe we'd list a bunch of series we read in 2008 (even going up to date) and rate them on a scale of 1 to 10.  Also, list how many books out of the series you read.  That will give the person browsing a better idea at your knowledge for rating the series, if that makes sense.  You can even go so far as to rating each book you read, if you wish.

TITLE                                                 Author                         # of Books Read            RATING

(1) Twilight                                       Stephanie Meyers           All                                      10

(2) Immortals After Dark                Kresley Cole                    5                                        10

(3) Sookie Stackhouse                   Charlaine Harris             All                                      10

(4) The Hollows                               Kim Harrison                   1                                          5

(5)  Kitty Norville                                Carrie Vaughn                1                                          6

(6) Mercy Thompson                        Patricia Briggs                2                                          9

(7) Love @ Stake                               Kerrelyn Sparks             2                                          8

(8) Queen Betsy                                 MaryJanice Davidson   All                                        8

(9) Nocturne City                                Caitlin Kittredge             1                                          7

(10) Lords of the Underworld           Gena Showalter           1                                           9

(11) Harper Connelly                          Charlaine Harris          All                                         6

Let me look...I only started reading paranormal last year, and it was definitely skewed toward one author...who is now one of my favorites :-p

Series:

Blood by Tanya Huff.  I read all six, and give them a 10/10

Smoke by Tanya Huff.  I read two, 9/10

Keeper's Chronicles by Tanya Huff, I only read the 1st, 10/10

Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, I only read the 1st, 10/10

Anita Blake by Laurell K. Hamilton, I read 3, 8/10

Why not rate them in the reviews?  It's sad that so few books actually have reviews written here on thsi site!  That's one of my new years resolutions...try to give a review, no matter how short on every book I read.

I really don't know what this site is looking for as far as reviews go.  I think most of the ones I see are stupid and unhelpful.  I did a couple of reviews where I thought I had something concise and relevant to say, but mostly I prefer my blog where I can ramble pointlessly.

Edit - OK, I am starting to review all the books on my BIR list.  Unfortunately for me it takes brain power! :-p  So I'll be adding them slowly.

LOL.  Well, I just figured the reviews are great.  I always check the amazon reviews before I decide whether or not I want to read a book.  The only time I'll really read a book with less than 4 stars is if it's the beginning of what's supposed to be a great series.  I'm one of those that likes to read from the beginning rather than start from book 2 or 3, unless they are totally separate stories.

It's also better for people who have gotten to "know" each other, so to speak, say, all of us on the paranormal forum, we get to know each person's taste as compared to our own, so we can say, oh, "SO and SO" thinks it's a good series, I should try it out.  Ya know?

Oops! My fingers can't type today and hit Enter by mistake last time.  :-|

Just had to put my 2 cents in and give my additions to this list!

              Book             Author                          # Read           Rating

  1. Twilight    by Stephanie Myers          All              10/10
  2. Black Dagger Brotherhood [Dark Lover, Lover Eternal, Lover Awakened, Lover Revealed, Lover Unbound, Lover Enshrined]
                       by J.R. Ward                       All           10/10
Excellent series. The 1st one had me hooked & I was haunting B & Noble for another quick fix!  Other authors pale in comparison, IMHO.  I'm thinking that Black Dagger Brotherhood has messed me up for reading other series.  :)
Breathlessly awaiting the new one due out in May 09!!
  3. Embraced by Darkness, The Darkest Kiss

    by Keri Arthur                       2                6/10
  4. The Accidental Vampire, Vampires are Forever
                       by  Lyndsay Sands            2               9/10
  5. Darkness Chosen [Scent of Darkness, Touch of Darkness]
                       by Christina Dodd             2               9/10
  6. Nightworld  by L.J. Smith                  1 of 3          6/10
Maybe they'll get better. Heard good things about this author.

I'm always interested in reading others' lists with the possibility of discovering new great authors to try.
I have found so many new authors on PBS.

HAHA, yeah, I read a lot myself.  I'm reading Dark Lover right now.  OKAY, how come you didn't tell me I was going to friggin love this series?  LOL, does it get better?  I hope.   I love series that get better.  The ones that get more disappointing as you go on, really piss me off.

Personally I think the jr ward books get worse in the last few. I have the latest one in my tbr and I really have no desire to read it, but I will hoping it gets better in the next one.

She is no longer a fav of mine.

If you look at the ratings for them on Amazon, books 1 through 4 get four to five stars, then it goes downhill from there.

Lol Team Eric, EVERYONE loves the BDB.  Sorry to disapoint you though....most folks agree that the series starts to go downhill a little after Butch's story (5th book).  However, like me most of us are already so addicted to the series we haven't given up yet.  These are still good books with a great potential for future stories and really I only have some issues with the last two.  Still looking forward to the next one ;)

Like some others here I have read about 200 books in the last year so the list would be waaaay too much, I'm going to post a few fav. series though:

1.  Christina Dodd/ Darkness Chosen series- read all four:  Scent of Darkness-9  Touch of Darkness-10  Into the Shadow-10   Into the Flame-8  Note:  I found this series hereon paperbackswap!  And loved it.  This series ends at four, but I do believe Dodd has a spin off series (the Chosen Ones) coming out late summer 09

2.  Jeaniene Frost/ Night Huntress series- read all three, looking forward to the next one:  Halfway to the Grave -10  One Foot in the Grave -10  At Graves End -9

3.  Lora Leigh/ Breed series:  ( this is an ongoing series with more than one publisher, I am only going to list the one's recently read)

Mercury's War (book 16)-9  Dawn's Awakening -9    *note:  most of these books are a 9 or a 10 in my opinion **warning:  these are very hot/ spicy be warned.

4.  Christine Feehan /Dark series:  (ongoing series, only listing recently read titles)  Dark Curse -7 1/2 ***would have given it an 8 if it were in paperback, but a hard cover with a "quick ending" leaving so many loose ends made for a minus.

5.  Christine Feehan/ Game series:  (ongoing series, only listing recent titles)  Predatory Game #6-10  Murder Game #7-9  ***This series continues to be interesting and different and I enjoy seeing where it's going next.

6.  Gena Showalter/ Lords of the Underworld:  1.  The Darkest Night #1-10  The Darkest Kiss #2 -10  The Darkest Pleasure #3 -9 ***all came out in 08... Wow!

7.  Sherrilyn Kenyon/ Dark Hunters: (ongoing series.....)  Archeron #12-10  ***this book was in hard cover, but it was worth the money in my opinion.  While the romance may not have lived up to Kenyons typical excellence the story was incredible.  ****caution:  very graphic violence, not for the squeemish.

8.  Nalini Singh/ Psy Changeling series:  (ongoing....)  Hostage to Pleasure #5 -10  I enjoyed all five of the books in this series and would rate most of them a 9 or 10.

9.  J. R. Ward/ Black Dagger Brotherhood series:  Lover Enshrined #6-7  (sorry BDB fan's I wasn't as thrilled with this one or #6 as I was with 1-4)  And, the next one is coming out in hard cover so I'm even less thrilled with that!  That being said I'll prob still drop the money and buy it right away.  I am still a fan, just feel a little let down.

10.  Larissa Ione/ Demonica series:  (new!)  Pleasure Unbound #1-10  really looking forward to the second in this series due out end of this month  :)

I could go on....but unfortunately...gotta work, lol!

I loved them.  Kind of a shapeshifter series.  There's a family curse, and demons.  But they're uber alpha males and a very good story line.  I think there are a few here available.  They need to be read in order or they won't be as good.  I'm really looking forward to the spin off series starting this summer ;)

Larissa Ione/ Demonica series:  (new!)  Pleasure Unbound #1-10 *  I loved this book!  I think it's just different than your 'every day paranormal' !!  This is the book that sucked my SIL into paranormal (and now she's one of us!!!  <evil laugh>)

Lol Jaapyle/ Amy

I read the back of Pleasure Unbound and thought, "yuk"!!!   I don't usually go for silly, I like my pnr on the serious side and a demon hospital sounded too silly to me.  For some reason I took and chance and read it anyways, boy was i glad I did.  Somehow Ione made it work, and it worked well.  The next book is out later this month and I'm really looking forward to it  : )

Ashley,

Lucky you, lol!!!

How did you end up doing reviews?  Is there a criteria for such a position?  What is FAR?  If you don't mind my asking.  Not so much trying to be nosey,  I've just alway's been interested in how someone could apply for a position writing reviews and never knew who to ask about this subject.

Thanks for any info you may care to share : )
