I thought about listing all my books on PBS and Bookmooch, does anybody else do this?  If you do  what are the problems if any you have had with doing so? I go to both sites each day and would delete from one as soon as it was requested on the other.

I post on 3 sites. The primary one is PBS.  I post EVERTYTHING here first.  If it doesn't get taken after a few days... I post on swaptree too.  That is nice for posting books that aren't up to PBS standards since it lets you describe the book.  I also post a few on bookmooch, but I am still new to bookmooch and was afraid of too many of my books being requested and having too much postage cost... so I have only been adding books there slowly as I test the waters.

If you post it here, and it is wishlisted, you can't easily cancel your posting, so it's best to post here first and see it is snapped up or put on "wish list hold."  If it is, don't post elsewhere.

Also, if you are doing polygamous postings -- like my term??? --  you need to be very careful about keeping your bookshelf up-to-date, & immediately deleting books here that you are sending out through another means.

I don't post anywhere else -- this is plenty for me -- but this is all info I've gleaned from reading the forums.

I post on 2 sites and haven't had many problems.I do check here first to see if a book is on someones wish list before also posting it elsewhere. On rare occasions I have forgotten to remove a book when it was taken on the other site. For me this is embarrassing but can be dealt with easily enough. You just have to keep on top of things.

I also use Bookmooch although I primarily use it for books that aren't postable on PBS or are borderline.  Several times I've had books that had a lot posted on PBS but were WL over there.  I prefer to send books out on PBS.  I have a lot of credits racked up at Bookmooch and it's much harder to get a WL book from there.  They don't do FIFO over there. Which is nice in that you can look and see the condition of a book or see if the person hasn't logged on in a long time. But it's not nice in that 99% of the time when I get the WL book available email and click on it-it's already been ordered. But I've gotten a few.

When I'm posting a book I check to see if it's WL on PBS first.  If it is than I only post in here.  If it's a book that's not WL but doesn't have many copies posted-than I usually post it here first.   Books that have a lot in the system-I post on both sights.

I wouldn't do 2 sites unless you can come on a lot and update.  So far I haven't had a request from both sites for the same book at the same time.  But then I've had my PBS account on hold for a while.

The message boards on bookmooch suck.

I have some of my books posted on two sites, but not all of them.  I always bring them to PBS first (as long as they meet posting guidelines).  If the book is wishlisted here, then I post it immediately and wait for the request.

If it is not wishlisted here, I immediately put it on my reminder list to see how many copies are in the system.  My guideline is "less than five".  If there are less than five copies in the system here, then I only post it here and wait (but I don't like to have too many books hanging around, so I might get tired of waiting for the request here if the number on the reminder list isn't moving.  Then I will also take it over to Bookmooch).  If there are lots of copies here, then I will post it here and on Bookmooch.

It is important that you delete duplicate postings as soon as they are requested on one of the sites.

I used to keep the two lists completely separate, but after a couple months, I started using the system above and I've not had any problems. (another reason for PBS not to get rid of the Reminder List grrrrrrrrr)

I post on 3 sites because the other 2 don't have the volume that PBS has (which is why it is my favorite site!).  However, I will post the books here first and check and see how many copies are listed.  If I am the only one I will wait a few days before posting it anywhere else.  If there are multiple copies I will post on 1 other site and see if it is taken from there.  If not after a few days I will post it to the 3rd site.

I am able to check throughout the day so I can manage it if someone comes in and orders the book.  only once or twice has it been ordered from both sites while I was away for a few hours.  In that case I gave it to the person that requested it first.  It is rare that this happens.

I post books on Swaptree, too. I have only ever gotten/sent 3 things there, though. PBS is way way better to me.

I've had a few books that had over 100 posted on PBS that were WL on BM and ordered right away.  On the flipside last week I received 2 books from BM that are WL on PBS. So they'll be posted here after I read them.  I don't order anything from BM that's available on PBS. That's probably why I have a bunch of credits racked up over there and am getting low on PBS credits.

And that is exactly why I use BM more for those books that are plentiful.   I have been collecting favorite authors at BM - books that are well-represented on both sites, because I have more points on BM.  It's all a matter of budgeting :)   If I have 50 credits on BM, and 10 credits on PBS, and there is a book on both sites that I want, why would I use one of my PBS points to get it?

Well I just figure I want to help other PBSers earn credits or save them for BOB deals.  I did go on a Bookmooch spending spree recently and ordered about 10 books that were available in PBS. But ones that only had a few posted on PBS or that weren't available on PBS but weren't WL either.

But right now I'm on a no credit spending spree until I read up some of Mt TBR.

go figure... after reading this thread and hemming and hawing about it, I listed some books over at BookMooch today only to have the same book requested from both sites within 12 minutes of one another! The PBSer's request came in first though.

were they already listed here or did you list them at the same time?  if they had already been listed here...what a weird coincidence!

Elizabeth - did you have it on your reminder list to see how many copies were in the PBS system?  (really wish there was an easier way of knowing)

Like I said, if there are five or less copies on PBS when I list a book, I don't list it anywhere else unless the FIFO line doesn't move for a long time.

It was just a funny coincidence...

there are currently 29 copies of that book in the system.

plus another 91 copies of the two other paperback printings of the same book in the system.

that is kind of funny but maybe someone was perusing your shelf after seeing your post in the forum and ordered directly from your shelf.  I've done that before

I have at various times belonged to BookMooch, Title Trader and Frugal Reader.  All of which I found to be inferior to PBS and it was a pain keeping my lists updated at them all when I sent or received books.  So eventually I quit the other sites and trade exclusively here at PBS. It's easier, has more traffic, more responsive and friendly members, and a much better discussion forum.

I had MAJOR problems when I did this!

I first joined Bookmooch and then like 6-8mts later I found Paperback Swap.

I quickly posted everything I had on Bookmooch onto Paperback Swap.

That was when the problems happened -

1. I'd get a request from one site and forget to remove it on the other.

2. Then someone on the 2nd site requested the book and I didn't have it. Most understood, but some didn't.

3. I got a few suggestions such as - BEFORE ACCEPTING A TRADE ONE SITE REMOVE THE OTHER BOOK ON THE 2ND SITE this didn't work well for me either since I still often forgot.

4. I quickly got a lot of bad marks on Bookmooch to the point of the site owner emailing me making this suggestion - Post some books on one site and other books on the other one

This worked well. I have heard a few people do it this way -

1. Post most books on Paperback Swap since they have site conditions (which I LOVE)

2. Unpostable books on PBS can be posted at Bookmooch. This way you can enter in what is wrong with them in the conditions form the site provides.

I still mainly trade on PBS, but when I have unpostables I will post them to Bookmooch.

Good luck.

I list books on 9 (...and counting...) sites.  I'm slowly getting rid of* my books and changing to listing only wishlisted books, but my previous experience with doing this wasn't simple.  It's too easy to forget things, and it's super easy to post a popular book that gets requested almost instantly in more than one place.  Until someone creates an Art of Books for swapping sites, lol, I recommend against listing in more than one place.

I changed how I handled things and it smoothed out.  First, I check each place to see if it's wishlisted and post those where they ought to be requested fastest - if there's more than one site with a wisher, I post it where I'll get the most for it first.  Then I list UN-wishlisted books on PBS for a while, then move them to Title Trader, then BookMooch... etc. It's way easier to keep track of them and I don't run into the problems I had before.

* Yes, indeed.  "Getting rid of" = destroying, tearing in half and recycling... request from me and stop the madness!  :-)
