Much of the present day cooking of New England can be traced to the English origin on the settlers that landed on Plymouth Rock and the food they found in the area when they arrived. Things like Pumpkins, Native Corn, squash, cranberries, Turkey, Maple Syrup, cod. They were taught by Native Americans about things like sugar from Maple Syrup to provide protection for the body during the bitter cold winters which is why many of these traditional New England recipes are sweeter than the original English ones.
