I know this is a writer's forum but I have a question about illustrating.......My husband has been asked to illustrate a children's book.  how do we go about making sure he gets compensated for this?    The author has asked him but how does all that work??

Thanks

Does the author have an agent or publishing company?  If the author is just starting out, probably a contract is in order.  I won't pretend to know how it works, but he needs to make sure if the book is published he makes out on the deal too.

I would see if your local library has the illustraters version of the Writers Market book that lists the current market guidelines for them. They usually will have information for people just starting out.

I would say that a contract is in order no matter if they have an agent or publisher etc.  He needs to set down how much he will sell his work for and if he will get any money per book sold.

Writers market also has an online version that is very good, and gets updated very often. I think illustraters can get agents too so that might be worth a look at.
