I just mailed a book out, and the post office wouldn't accept the DC, saying I had to pay the full 80cents, rather than the 19cents. Are there any documents on the postal service website or on here that shows it's valid DC, and that I do in fact only have to pay the 19cents for it?

This is right from the USPS website. I have also had trouble with them letting me use it at a post office 'outlet' at the local grocery store. They said they didn't have the scanner for it. I go to a regular post office instead and they said the store should be able to use it.

There is also a BIG thread where another member fought her post office to use it.

Amy - try telling them to scan it, that will show them that not only does their system recognize the DC #, it recognizes it as an electronic DC and charges the appropriate 0.19.

Thank you, I'm going to run back there now, I did print something from the USPS website to show her too.

and if I had another post office close by, I would go to it, but this is the only PO in this town, so I'm stuck.

*head desk*  yikes, more untrained USPS staff *sigh*  Good luck with that Amy.  If they are on the official USPS computerized system, the clerk just needs to chill, follow directions, and scan the barcode when prompted.  The computer just does the rest and charges the proper fees.

Electronic DC is legit and very common these days, if your clerk remains unwilling insist on speaking directly to the postmaster.

I seems that PBS members spend alot of time educating USPS employees, must be a perk of PBS membership lol!

I don't use DC myself, so maybe I'm wrong here, but don't you also buy the regular postage when you buy DC?  Then you should be able to put the books right into the mailbox or mail slot at the PO and not have to bother interacting with the human postal clerks.  I always use the APC at my PO for just that reason.

No you can just print with PBS DC.  You add the stamps separately.

Yeah, I just do the DC from here, and then pay for the postage there. This book was over 13oz anyway.

Well that's weird, DC was still scanned in at the PO. The postal worker covered it with 3 white labels. Wonder if someone took them off later or something.

Are you sure it was scanned, or was it just listed as being reported to the PO?

Yep, it was scanned. It's now reading as "accepted". Weird,  Package must not have gone out like they said it did at 4:15.

the 13 oz thing only applies when you use regular stamps...otherwise you can deposit the books in the mail bin.

Like Kathy said, 13 oz. rule does not apply for trackable postage...such as PBS printable postage.  In theory, if you are a terrorist mailing bad stuff then TPTB can find you through the electronic records.
