I thought I saw this discussed before, and can't find it by using the search function.

Is there ANY way to tell where a book that has been requested from me is going (i.e. address of recipient) before I print my label with Delivery Confirmation?

I had one a while ago that ended up being 2 miles from me, and I delivered it instead. I had already printed out the label before I realized it, and spent the money on PBS DC.

I thought I saw that on SADVD that on the "confirm this request" type of page it had something to the effect of "Going To: NY" or "En Route: NY" before I clicked on the "I Can Mail Within: 2 Days" button.

Can anyone shed some light on this? It would be wonderful to not have to print out a label if you know something will be local, and it's great meeting people in my area that use this site as well!

Thanks,
Melissa

first thing is you can try checking their profile to see if it's shown there, or if it's not directly in their profile, but they show the maps for sent & received you can peek at those.  other than that, it's a little awkward, but what you can do on the print label screen is first select 'no extra services' (to not use the DC), then click the button for handwriting the label to check the address.  then you can go back and print the label with your normal settings if it's not a local person.

i only avoided doing the same thing once because the person had their city shown in their profile, and it's just the next town over.  now i try to remember to check before printing, though i haven't had anyone else close enough to just drop the books off.

You can print the label first with no add-ons which means no cost.  When the screen to print come up just check the address and exit out of the page without hitting print.  Then when you are actually ready to print, change the option to the DC or DC and postage option.

Use the option for handwritting the label, which adds no dc or postage, and opens faster so that you can look at it. It is the 3rd print button down.

Thanks so much all! Will give your tips a try. I certainly don't anticipate having another local requester any time in the near future, but it is nice to know they do exist! LOL

just an fyi, a month or two ago i did choose handwriting with my default option of DC selected, and it did ding me for PBS money for DC, even though with the handwriting option there's no possibility of DC being used.  i reported it, and my PBS money was returned, but since i don't know if that issue is fixed yet, i recommend people turn off the DC option before clicking the handwriting button.

Ellen, that was a glitch that was fixed right after it happened to a few people. There was a post stating that it had been fixed. It will no longer ding anyone for money when clicking the handwritten option. They jumped on that one pretty quick :)
