- I selected an item to purchase & clicked "Continue with PayPal."
- However, I realized my item was wrong, so I went & selected the right item.
- I then tried to delete the incorrect item from my cart & couldn't. It says:

"That item could not be removed from your cart. This is probably due to your cart having been locked by a Paypal transaction in process."

I NEVER left the PBS pg. & NEVER signed into PayPal! So why is our shopping cart being locked like this? But more importantly how do I get out of it? It's been 45 minutes & it's still locked! =( This happened once before & I sent a message into PBS but by the time I got an answer the next day, of course the shopping cart was fine by then.

I could see it if I had signed into PayPal & started processing the order but as I said I NEVER left the PBS site!

Does anyone know of anyway to reset the shopping cart? This is not something you should have to wait hours for. Thank you!

I'd recommend logging out of PBS and back in again.

Send in Feedback via the Contact Us link under Company at the bottom of the screen and ask them if they can do anything to clear your cart.

Do you have another browser on your machine? You can try logging in with another browser too.

Logging in to PayPal and back out might clear the lock too.

Thanks! I did all that last week when this first happened. I've restarted, refreshed, cleared cache, cookies, logged in-out to PayPal & PBS, used a *completely* different computer/browser, sent in to Help...nothing! I was just hoping someone would have a suggestion I hadn't tried.

Thanks much everyone! =)

Cali, the same thing happened to me yesterday. I sent them a message about it, logged off and went to bed. Just logged back on a few minutes ago and the problem was fixed. I know its kind of unnerving to be stuck in a loop like that but I do think if you contact them they will probably fix it.

Hi Nora! =) Yes I did send them a message. When it happened the 1st time last week, it was just like yours & didn't clear until late that night/next day. And of course the PBS reply came in the next day also after it had cleared. They just said that it would basically time out. But that's just crazy to have to wait hours or a day when all you're trying to do is delete an item from the cart. This time I ended up just going ahead with the purchase, did a 2nd transaction for the correct item, & then requested a cancellation/refund for the 1st. =(

I hate you had the same problem but it is kind of nice to know I'm not the only one. =) Just for curiosity are you on a MAC? I am & sadly things are always different or a bit more problematic than PC's. But that's not just here it's a lot of - if not most websites. That said, I wouldn't trade my MAC for anything! =) Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Thank you for your post. =)

If you click on the button taking you to PayPal,  PayPal (not PBS) locks the transaction until you've completed it.  If you try to back out by clicking the browser back or refresh button, it'll freeze up.  Either way, PayPal doesn't release the transaction for a few hours, until either you complete it or it clears itself.  At least that's my understanding.

Hey Patty! =)  It’s been awhile!

A - Yes that's exactly what happened. But by clicking "Continue with PayPal" & never leaving the PBS page, the only thing I had done at that point was select my method of payment.

B- My understanding from both PBS (their reply last week when this first happened) & PayPal is the moment I clicked "Continue with PayPal" PBS put a hold on the transaction pending completion that required me to sign in to PayPal & complete/accept the purchase. Had I made it to that point then I could see why the hold would have continued pending notification from PayPal.

Not only that but in the meantime I did contact PBS to let them know the item in my cart was a an error & asked them to please clear my cart. At the very least, that should be something programmable to do given it's a PBS account & shopping cart. I did open a new tab, logged into my PayPal account, & confirmed there were no pending transactions.

C- I waited over 3+ hours & my cart still had not cleared or unlocked. (Last week was longer.) I even cleared my cache and cookies, refreshed, re-started, logged out, you name it…and logged in with a different browser on a completely different computer.

I have no idea what or who is heads or tails here. But it seems to me that there should be a way to allow the user the simple ability of deleting an item from the shopping cart & canceling a transaction without going through this kind of headache. If nothing else the 'time-out' option doesn't appear to work as intended.

I don’t know if it’s a MAC thing or just coding in general. It was just extremely frustrating because it went on for so long & today I had someone who was waiting on the outcome that I was trying to help. i.e. a Gift Certificate Membership. I hope this makes sense. But I have confidence our programming wiz’s can figure out a way to make it happen. I confess after all the frustration & dead ends today – maybe I’ll wake up & this will all have been a dream.  Thank you for your post. =)
