Reading this book is like walking down the street with a companion whose month goes non stop relating bits and pieces of gossip about every building you pass including buildings that existed on the spot before the present one. I said gossip not facts. Some details are accurate but others are definitely rumor or errors. Like having George Elliot's death off by 10 years. However, as gossip it is hilarious and a great pleasure to read. I now want to walk the streets of London.

Was great pre-trip reading for me - I love history (and study it) but it had stuff I'd never come across before -
