Before the dark settled in the people had begun to speak of a hard winter. They said that the beluga Nukruk Agorek's harpoon had caught was a bad sign. The beluga ate the small fish. But soon the hunger inside told them more than the beluga that a difficult time lay ahead.
Nukruk Agorek, though he was not yet a man, yearned to help his people. And he did. Many times in that winter he acted the part of a man, and by so doing he earned his place in the tribe.
