While Douglas Adams' writing style is still enjoyable in this fourth book in the trilogy (yes, you read that right), he doesn't manage to be as funny as in the previous entries. I believe this is due to the fact that most of the story actually happens on Earth, as opposed to Arthur wandering around in space trying to negotiate his way through laugh out loud situations. There is also a serious lack of Marvin the robot (he only appears in one chapter). Overall, I still enjoyed reading it, but it didn't meet my expectations for the series.

Overall, it's a good story. My complaint is that sometimes it really feels like it drags on and on and on and on... It doesn't flow the best and even with its humor, I did sometimes wonder why I was still reading this book. A lot of times, I had to wonder what the point of things were (which is probably the author's goal) and how many pages I had left before it was over. But, since I wanted to know what happens in the end, I kept going.

I don't really know if Douglas Adams INVENTED slapstick science fiction or just PERFECTED IT. He's in a class all by himself!

From back cover: Arthur Dent is out of his bathrobe, in love, and wondering why the dolphins said...So Long and Thanks for All the Fish. Was the earth really demolished? Why did all the dolphins disappear? What is God's final message to His creatures? Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, and the new voivoid gang are off (by commercial airline) on a wacked-out quest to answer these truly unimportant questions.
