Hi,

Can you recommend any books that are similar to Gone with the Wind?  I'm looking for a book for my Grandma for her birthday and she likes the Civil War fictions.  She's read the Scarlett and Rhett books, so those are out.

Any help is appreciated!

Not sure if this is Civil War era or not, but how about And Ladies of the Club by Helen Hoover Santmyer?  This popped in my head while I read your message.  Sure would keep her busy, it's a huge book. I read it years ago and loved it.

Diane,  take a look at JACOB'S LADDER by Donald McCaig, family saga set in Virginia during the Civil War.  Another good one is WIDOW OF THE SOUTH by Robert Hicks seet at the time of the Battle of Franklin (Tennessee) based on the life of the mistress of the McGavock home which became a hospital during and after the battle, and is now the site of a Civil War cemetery.

How about North and South by John Jakes - it's the first in a trilogy that takes place during the Civil War.

Thank you for the suggestions, I have a few to choose from and should be able to find something for Grandma!
