Hope I spelt that right, anyway, I am looking into getting a chihuahua. Long Hair. I've always had large dogs. This winter we lost both are dogs to old age. A Golden Retriever and a English Springer Spaniel. They were great dogs and we had them both for 13 years. I really want a small dog this time. I want to just scoop one up and go. Does anyone have a chihuahuas? Any advise??? Cindy

I've never had a chihuahua, but this seemed like a good, balanced source about them:

Hello, Cindy -

You might also google The American Kennel Club for reputable breeders.  Good luck!     :)

I will let you know from expiries that a Chihuahua has a different personality than a Golden Retriever or an English Springer Spaniel.  My little girl “Meha Myah” is bossy and different than the other four dogs I have.   I am almost sure she is a cat in dog’s clothing.

I’ve owned both…and Ms Myah seems to have a cat’s personality.  She is love, as are all my “fur babies”.   You can see a pic of her on my site at http://littlepaws.7p.com/family_bios.html   She is the fifth pic down.

Again I wish you well in finding a new puppy.                                                      K9Moma

All your puppers are adorable. I do love cats so a dog with a cat personality won't bother me a bit. I've been doing alot of reading on these beautiful dogs and have found a respectable breeder fairly close to home. I'm hoping to have a new fur face this spring. I work at a school so when school is out I will have all the time to work on training a new furbaby. I taught all my puppers to ring a bell that I tied to the front door to let me know they wanted out. I can't wait till spring!

How exciting, Cindy......bet you are going bonkers just waiting.  My MIL had two short-haired chihuahuas, and never being really fond of small dogs, I was not really too thrilled.....until I met both of them!  They were the sweetest, most loyal little handfuls of dog I had ever met.  Real loves.....

My daughter has a chicaucha named Toby. He is very cute. He loves alot of attenion. He loves to jump in my lap and take a nap. He should of been named zippy because just zips around. He has been a lot of company for her.

He and my miniture poodle get along just fine.

Thanks everyone for your input. I can't wait till this spring to add a new member to our family. We are all very lonely without a dog in the house. Even the cat misses our oldtimers. Every time I walk into the house I look for a furry face. When are new arrival shows up I will be sure to let everyone know and if I can get one of my kids to help me I'll post a picture.

I help run a animal shelter in my hometown, and we see alot of chichi's come thru our doors, you might want to check your local animal shelter, alot of the time the shelters have pure breds in.I'm an owner of a chichi, and you really need to do your homework before getting one. They are prone to having seizures, and alot of them have very sensitive stomaches(special diets),they are easy to get sick from being to cold. All in all they are very good lil lap babies and like to sleep in your bed.
