Hi everyone,

Was wondering if anyone had suggestions for comic books for a 6 year old.  He loves Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, and has Captain Underpants (though I think it might be a little too busy for him to try to read it all).  If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Jeannette

Wow, there's a thread on the Club Member's Thought's page with the same theme.  My suggestion for one that young is the Disney comics by BOOM! Kids.  They have all of the most beloved Disney characters from Cars to the Incredibles, from Muppetts to Mickey Mouse.  That really is a tough age to find age-appropriate comics for, but those work out really well.

Other than that, you can look at Marvel Kids comics, although I think six may be a little young (use your own judgement there, I would buy them for a six year old if I thought their reading skills were high enough for them), those can be picked up at any news stand or Wal-Mart (they have Spiderman and Wolverine targeted toward children with mostly child-appropriate themes).

There is also the Bone series which is aimed at younger children (there is a movement encouraging this series in younger classrooms).  Discovery Comics produces comics aimed at little ones too, these are generally uber-educational featuring characters like Crime McGruff and others.

Finally, there are a bunch of educational comic books available (generally for little to no cost) from places like the American Legion, Nature (a PBS thing), the Boy Scouts, and just about any other organization you can think of.  These are always great finds.

Hope it helps and happy reading.

Hi Sheena,

Thank you for your suggestions.  We got one Bones comic and he likes it.  Also just got a Mickey Mouse comic in the mail today and he was reading it tonight.  Thank again,

Jeannette
