I've looked at a few bios on Napoleon and they either seem to cast him as a hero or villain. I would like to read an even-handed analysis of the man. Thanks in advance. |

A few years ago, I read a book called simply, Napoleon Bonaparte by Alan Schom. I thought it was pretty evenly depicted. It is a huge book though. |

Thanks Kat, I appreciate the information. Huge books don't bother me. |

Good luck on finding one that is unbiased. I have over 200 books on Napoleonic history, & in most he is considered either a hero or villain. Have you read Vincent Cronin's Napoleon (1972)? Or Christopher Herold's The Age of Napoleon? One of the most interesting biographies of Napoleon does not have so much to do with his actions, but his health & how it effected his actions. If you can find a copy Napoleon: A Doctor's Biography by Boris Sokoloff (Prentice-Hall, Inc, 1937) is extremely intersting. |

CMP - I haven't read any of those. Thanks for taking the time to post about them. I have to ask . . . how did you come to own over 200 books on the Napoleonic era? |

Hmmm, I wrote subject; then it posted nothing. I think I still have two copies of the Emil Ludwig biography. If interested, PM me and I will see if I can find one. |
