I love books where a group of people have to overcome a disaster, natural or man made. Earth quakes, plane crash, disease. I enjoy authors like Brian Keene, Early Dean Koontz, James Rollins.  I like a lot of action and not so much description.  The only stephen king book I've liked is cell.  Any suggestions would be great.  Thanks.

Try Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle

I wouldn't consider it a horror book, but it's got a disaster in it, a comet that hits Earth.

ETA: Swan's Song by Robert McCammon is also good. The disaster in this book is nuclear war.

I also liked Swan Song. My fave disaster book is The Stand. I read The Road and thought it was ok. But nothing to write home about. I ordered The Deluge a few days ago. Stanger by Simon Clark was really good too.AND last but not least-The Left Behind books are the ultimate apocolypse books! I am so not into religion but I loved those books! They kind of freaked me out for awhile.

I agree I thought The Road was abit dry.  I did read the first 2 Left Behind, but they were alittle to preachy for me. I go to church, but after reading the first one, I thought, I'm going to hell for sure !  I agree it was freaky and made a person think.

The Morningstar  Strain: Plague of the Dead by Z.A. Recht. This is a disease that takes out nearly the whole U.S. The few left alive have to overcome the diseased and the just evil people. Very action packed all through the book. It's a three book series.
