I just love these heroes! Here's a few I can think of:

Jake in Redemption by Carolyn Davidson

Sam in Just a Kiss Away by Jill Barnett

Not historicals but good:

Asher in Amazon Lily by Theresa Weir - one of my favorite books

Zarek in Dance with the Devil by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Yes, the Hoyt Jess mentioned,  having  that very fresh in mind, I'd even say Edward in her Raven Prince, though not as evident, same with.  Kenyon's Zarek.  I know there are others, but the memory is not calling specific ones to mind right now.

Alec and Richard from Bewitching and Dreaming by Jill Barnett, Stuart from Delicious by Sherry Thomas, McCady from Once in a Blue Moon by Penelope Williamson, Wulf Bedwyn from Mary Balogh's Slightly Dangerous (book 8 in a series),  Fortitude Ware (yes, that's really a name:P) from Jo Beverley's Something Wicked, the yummy Elliot March from The Bridal Season by Connie Brockway, and the disagreeable Benedict Carsington from another Loretta Chase favorite (Lord of Scoundrels is #1) Lord Perfect.

Though Diana Palmer is mostly contemporary, she's got some moody heroes for sure!

This is a contemporary series romance but the hero is gruff and grumbly--Getting Rid of Bradley by Jennifer Crusie.  It gets reprinted every so often and should be available here.  It's short and fast but funny.
